Summary Draft 2

William Lockett’s article titled "How an accidental discovery made this year could change the world" published on the website BigThink.com (2022), describes how an accidental discovery made by scientists at Drexel, has potentially made the better alternative to the commonly used lithium ion batteries; lithium sulphur batteries, commercially viable. The lithium-ion batteries currently used in most electronic applications have many drawbacks. Firstly, the materials used to produce these batteries, need to be mined. This mining is extremely damaging to the environment as it destroys ecosystems and releases toxic chemicals.  Secondly, there are battery degradation and density issues. Battery degradation refers to batteries losing the capability to store charge over time. And density issues refer to the batteries being very heavy, oversized and bulky for their energy density. These issues limit the feasibility of newer applications to adopt battery power and slow the adoption ...

Descriptive Reflection: Self-intro letter

Dear Professor Brad, My name is Aanandkumar Hari, from your class on Critical Thinking and Communicating  and this is my introductory letter. I am a former Digital and Precision Engineering student from NYP (Nanyang Polytechnic). I am currently a first-year Mechanical Design and Manufacturing Engineering student at SIT (Singapore Institute of Technology).  My hobbies include gaming, designing, playing football, gymming, and watching basketball.  My interest in engineering stems from my lifelong love of cars and mechanical products. For as long as I can remember, I have always been fascinated by machinery. While most kids watched Tom and Jerry, I watched programs like "How It's Made" and "Myth-Busters".  I find the opportunity to unlock a brighter future by solving current world problems through engineering extremely enticing and life-giving. My dream is to someday produce a car of my own.   In terms of communication, my biggest...

The importance of communication

Original -  "Developing excellent communication skills is absolutely essential to effective leadership. The leader must be able to share knowledge and ideas to transmit a sense of urgency and enthusiasm to others. If a leader can't get a message across clearly and motivate others to act on it, then having a message doesn't even matter." Gilbert Amelio, former President and CEO of National Semiconductor Corp Summary -  According to Gilberto Amelio, former President and CEO of National Semiconductor Corp, effective leadership involve motivating others, sharing knowledge and ideas, and instilling a sense of urgency and enthusiasm in others. Failing to do so makes having a message pointless. Therefore,  excellent communication skills are essential to effective leadership. Personal Opinion - Personally, I agree with Gilbert Amelio's sentiment on the value of communication for leadership. But even more so for day-to-day life. However, I also believe that having a mes...
